Christopher M. Cortman, PsyD

Dr. Cortman has been a Licensed Psychologist for more than 25 years. Dr. Cortman has facilitated more than 60,000 hours of psychotherapy, specializing in the treatment of psychological trauma, grief, anxiety and mood disorders, as well as conducting therapy for couples and families.  Dr. Cortman testifies in court as an expert witness for the State of Florida, consults for Venice Regional Medical Center, was Director of Allied Health Practitioners at Sarasota Palms (now Sarasota Memorial Hospital’s Bayside), and a former President of the Lower Westcoast Chapter of the Florida Psychological Association. Dr. Cortman has appeared nationwide on talk radio, including Disney Radio and has entertained audiences on mental health topics for groups such as the Mental Health Community Center, Care Center, Health Department, Chamber of Commerce and Children’s Services, as well as various hospitals, co-presenting with Tipper Gore and Jane Pauley.

A Licensed Psychologist for more than 20 years, Dr. Shinitzky was trained at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed two 3-year Fellowships while on faculty at JHU (Faculty Development Grant and CSAP Grant). He was the Director of the Assessment/Intervention Team (AIT) Prevention Services at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics. He has presented at the United Nations’ 6th Annual International Conference on Substance Abuse Treatment and Prevention. He was the Psychologist of the Year in the state of Florida in 2009, the recipient of the 2000 Martin Luther King, Jr. Award, recipient of the State of Maryland Governors’ Award, recipient of Psi Chi Award for Excellence in Teaching, consultant for State of Maryland, to the National Police Athletic Leagues and to Drug Free America. Dr. Shinitzky was the award winner for Outstanding Contributions to Psychology in the Public Interest in 2011. He was also the award winner for Outstanding Contributions to the FPA in 2011. He has been the Mental Health Correspondent for ABC, FOX, Animal Planet, MSNBC and Radio Disney. Dr. Shinitzky specializes in Sports Psychology, and works with US Olympic and Professional athletes from every major professional association. Dr. Shinitzky has developed and facilitated after-school, positive peer-oriented prevention groups for high-risk youth.
